"Wall of Recognition" at
Morven Park
The
original Bronze will honor the “Wall of Recognition” in the famous Henry
Vaughan room at the Foxhunting Museum at Morven Park, located in
Leesburg, Virginia. Harry Weber, an ex-MFH and Huntsman for the Bridlespur Hunt, did this
limited edition Bronze. Mr. Weber is an award-winning sculptor. Mr.
Weber catches the movement of hounds in full cry with superb attention
to detail and captures the beauty of their movement the way only a true houndsman could appreciate. These hounds have just jumped a coop and are
turning over a creek. The Huntsman is in the air over the coop. The coop
has a rider over it, which staff normally does not remove when hounds
are in full cry. We thought jumping a coop was uniquely North American.
You don’t see coops in other countries and we wanted this to represent
North American hunters.
The Huntsman is very accurate with his horn in his coat, 5 buttons on
his coat, ribbon down and hunting crop in hand. The mare he is riding
has the correct number of braids and is an exceptional jumper while
showing her brilliance as a foxhunter through her expression and
movement.
We used three famous hounds in this piece, Live Oak Drummer 1989, a
Virginia Grand Champion Crossbred, Midland Import 1997, another Virginia
Grand Champion and Piedmont Watchman 1989, a great sire of American
Hounds who may have more protégée than any other American Hound in
recent times. All three of these hounds were great hunters and were bred
often. The artist did a superb job of making it very difficult to know
which hound is in front as they are turning over the creek. Each hound
identification is etched in the bronze.
Foxhunters can have their name placed on the "Wall of Recognition".
The cost is $250 for a bronze plaque, $500 for silver or $1000 for gold
plaques; a great way to remember and/or acknowledge foxhunters.
The MFHA had a limited number of these
magnificent bronze copies for sale for $10,000 each, however they have
all since been sold.
They are exactly like the original and numbered. Sporting critics are raving
about the quality. This is a true museum
piece weighing approximately 130 pounds, 19 inches high and 24 inches
long.
The money raised from the sale of the bronzes and the plaques go toward fighting to preserve this wonderful
country sport of foxhunting. |
