Masters of Foxhounds Association Political Action Committee (MFHA PAC)

The MFHA has been very proactive in keeping you informed in our fight against animal rights (AR) legislation. We work closely with other hunting and conservation groups on proactive legislation and against anti-hunting legislation to preserve this sport for future generations. However, while your non-tax deductible contributions CAN be used to fight legislation and educate the public on issues important to our sport, those dollars CANNOT be used to help elect political candidates who are friendly to our cause. That is the key element missing in our capability to fight for our sport.

Electing legislators on the state and national level that are sympathetic to foxhunting is key to keeping anti-hunting legislation from becoming law. We need those legislators to introduce pro-hunting legislation nationwide. To meet this goal, MFHA has launched its own Political Action Committee, or PAC. By law, monies donated to MFHA cannot be given to a political candidate unless that money is specifically earmarked for a PAC. Nor can any monies given to the MFHA Foundation be used or lobbying or candidates. However, money can be given to the MFHA PAC. Any money given must indicate it is to be used only for the PAC and kept separate from all other MFHA funds. These funds are not tax deductible.

Why is this important? For one thing, HSUS spends millions of dollars from its PAC to contribute to the campaigns of legislators. Recently, California Senator Ted Lieu (HSUS puppet legislator) introduced SB 1221 to ban hunting bear and bobcat. Just before the crucial Senate vote, the HSUS California director handed out $1,000 donations to legislators. After it passed both houses, they took it a step farther and added amendments that could require registration and fees for all dogs used to pursue mammals. The bill is expected to be signed into law by the governor. In future elections, MFHA can use its PAC to support a candidate to that seat in California that is friendly to hunting with hounds.
