This is a full time position. Caring and feeding of hounds and carrying the Horn twice a week.

About

Loudoun-Fairfax and Loudoun Hunt, with history and tradition spanning back as far as 1894, located in Hamilton, VA, is looking for a new Huntsman for the 2024-25 season as the Hunt continues to build membership and support of mounted foxhunting in Virginia. The hunting country is nestled in lovely Northern Virginia, between the local towns of Leesburg and Middleburg. With thousands of acres of preserved and protected ground, and due to the generosity of generations of landowners, the Loudoun-Fairfax and Loudoun Hunt offers rolling hills, open fields, and pastures within the hunting country paneled mainly with coops and board fences. An involved and energetic membership are dedicated to making Loudoun-Fairfax and Loudoun Hunt the friendliest and most accessible hunt in the community and are looking for a Huntsman who shares in that vision for the Hunt’s future. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Hunting hounds, two days per week during regular season, as well as occasional bye days
  • Care of hounds and kennels, including feeding and cleaning kennels
  • Daily hound exercise/walking out
  • Oversee a breeding program, whelping of pups, and training of young entry
  • Manage, care, and exercise the Hunt’s staff horses
  • Oversee Hunt territory, trail clearing, mowing, and paneling, as well as upkeep of the Hunt’s over 100-acre main kennel property and club house.
  • Build, establish, and steward relationships with landowners, subscribers, and guests
  • Serve as key worker in the Hunt’s annual Point to Point Races, summer trail rides, other social and hunting events which build membership and fellowship within the Hunt

Preferred Skills

The competitive candidate should be an individual with experience hunting hounds and/or whipping-in, with excellent riding and horse-skills, as well as keen knowledge of hounds and hound care.
