Rolling Rock Hunt, a long established pack, located in the quiet, quaint town of Ligonier PA, is looking for a new Huntsman for the 2024/25 season and beyond to continue our longstanding tradition, and build and raise a future foxhunting generation. We hunt crossbred hounds through sparsely used, hilly, open farmlands and woods.
We have plenty of country and lots more an eager Huntsman could add. There are no neighboring packs to compete for land. We have great hunting country, and we are well foxed and have plenty of coyotes. Our pack has been bred and made by Sam Clifton over the past 7 seasons. They are a lovely level pack with plenty of drive.
We are situated in the small, quaint and quiet borough of Ligonier, PA, a special hideaway for those lucky enough to call it home. We are friendly and free from drama and Hunt politics, and enjoy hard work and play.
We do not have giant fields of 50 riders but those out hunting are game! There may be days a Huntsman might feel he is doing it alone. But that is countered by days full of comrades and gratitude for a fulfilled day.
The Huntsman’s house and attached kennels and stables have character and comfort. Originally built as the jockey barracks and stabling for the historic Rolling Rock Races, they have been converted into comfortable living for horses, hounds and humans.
Our focus of late is to bring on a new generation of hunt members. In combination with the Ligonier Valley youth polo program and the Rolling Rock Pony Club, we are fostering enthusiasm in hunting as well. Engaging with and encouraging participation from these young riders is an important element in our huntsman’s job description.
