The Arapahoe Hunt is looking for a full time Whipper-In/Kennel Person for the 2024-25 season. We are located in Watkins, Colorado just 30 minutes from the Denver metro area.
The hunt was originally founded in 1907. Since 1987, the Hunt has hunted 21,530 acres on a long term lease with the Colorado State Land Board. Our hunt country consists of open rolling prairie, drainages, breaks, ravines and two (2) 6 mile long large creek bottoms.
There are over 200 coops and log jumps on the fixture. We have 160 acres exclusively where the kennels, barn, club house, Kennel Person’s house, and horse pastures are located.
The Hunt houses approximately 50 English Foxhounds and up to 5 staff horses at the facility. The Hunt members go out up to 60 times every season on Wednesdays and Sundays from early September until mid-April.We give fair chase hunting coyotes during the season and exercise hounds daily during the summer. Our fixture has an abundance of coyotes, almost always running at least one coyote and often times 2 or 3 coyotes each time out.
The essence of The Arapahoe Hunt is to uphold and carry on the centuries old tradition of English Fox Hunting with horses. We also have numerous social events annually promoting ethical hunting and land conservation.
We have a great group of members, young and old, who provide a welcoming and friendly environment for all who participate in this wonderful sport of ours!
