The Hunt Season Booklet

Source: Princess Anne Hunt, Virginia District
Purpose: Fundraising, and multipurpose member/landowner resource

How it Works:

Princess Anne Joint-MFH Ed Mitchel says their Hunt Season Booklet, “has been very successful and we’re happy if other hunts replicate it.” The booklet, now in its third year, brings in over $13K during summer months, which also helps with cash flow.

Of course there is initial work setting it up, and there are printing and mailing costs.  However, all this is offset by the fact that:

  • It combined two former letters, a hunt ball fundraising booklet, a landowner brochure, and hunting guidelines
  • It’s an opportunity to sell advertising & sponsorships
  • It’s a template that’s easy to re-use
  • A good printer can do the layouts
  • The attractive design makes people keep it
  • Sponsors and advertisers have year-round exposure
  • Three quarters of advertisers repeat each year
  • It has year-round instructional value for hunting and clinics

Each season’s booklet is mailed to members and landowners prior to cub hunting.  Contents include hunt history and practices, core values, points of contact, lists of Masters, staff and landowners, season calendar, hunt turnout, etiquette and terminology, awards, hunt photos and over 50 ads and sponsorship notices. It’s a valuable way to connect the hunt with its members and landowners.

Ed credits his Joint-MFH Merri Musso for leading the way with their booklet, and she’s ready to answer any questions about this very successful venture. To view a recent booklet, click here.
